Join us on this 6-day trek from Mestia to Ushguli. Traverse some of the most beautiful parts of the Svaneti region, known for its stunning, mountainous landscapes and villages older than anyone can remember, with their medieval towers and houses dating back to centuries. Start your journey with a drive from Tbilisi to Mestia. See the massive Enguri Dam, one of the highest arch dams in the world, en route. Visit the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography in Mestia. Explore this highland townlet with narrow streets and life frozen in time. Trek through the wilderness of the Greater Caucasus to reach Adishi on the third day of the trip. A village in the middle of an alpine meadow surrounded by mountains, Adishi gets its name from the river nearby. Reach Ushguli, the highest permanent settlement in Europe, on the fifth day of the trip. We will drive you back to Tbilisi on the last day of the trip. Hike day after day through flower-strewn alpine meadows and over alpine passes while enjoying great mountain views, including that of Shkhara (5152m), one of the highest mountains in Caucasus. Stay overnight in local guesthouses in remote villages. Admire the quaint medieval architecture and simple life of the people living in villages along the route.

Day 1 : Tbilisi - Enguri Dam - Mestia
Enjoy our pickup service from your hotel and head for Svaneti, where you will reach after 4 hours. Stop en route at the Enguri Dam, one of the highest arch dams in the world. Drive to the region of Upper Svaneti, known for its exceptional mountain landscape and old villages that breathe history in the form of their unique defensive towers and ecclesiastical architecture dating back to the Middle Ages. Visit the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography in Mestia and explore the highland townlet. Walk down its narrow streets while enjoying its unique architecture. Visit local cafes and souvenir shops if you want to. You will stay in Mestia tonight.
Day 2 : Mestia - Zhabeshi
Your trekking starts today with a hike to Zhabeshi. The trail is easy and well-marked. Stay overnight in Zhabeshi (shared facilities).
Day 3 : Zhbeshi - Adishi
Trek through the wilderness of the Greater Caucasus after breakfast. Clamber up the slopes of Tetnuldi Mountain, past a ski resort, and descend into the forests of birches and rhododendrons. Reach Adishi, a village in the middle of an alpine meadow surrounded by mountains with a river gushing nearby. See its stone towers, houses and other structures built several centuries ago. You will stay in this village overnight.
Day 4 : Adishi - Iprali
Start your day by following the Adishi River upstream. Cross the river on horseback and climb up to the Chkhunderi Pass (2,655m). Enjoy great views of the picturesque Adishi Glacier from the pass. Have your lunch on the top of a ridge while enjoying great views and descend into the valley formed by the Khaldechala River. After two hours of easy walk, you will reach Khalde, a village which was destroyed in the 19th century by the Russian soldiers. Follow the trail that goes to Iprali.
Day 5 : Iprali - Ushguli
Drive to Ushuli, located at the foot of Mount Shkara and at the confluence of Enguri and Kvishiri rivers. The highest permanent settlement in Europe, Ushuli is located at an altitude of 2200m and provides an outstanding mixture of mountainous landscape with medieval-type towers and churches. Visit the Ushguli Ethnograpic museum located in a 12th-century tower house. Head for the medieval LaMaria Church. Afterwards, you can take an optional hike to the Shkhara Glacier. The way is long, 8km one way, but easy. Stay overnight in Mestia.
Day 6 : Ushguli - Mestia - Tbilisi
Drive to Tbilisi after breakfast. Visit the Chalaadi Glacier en route by following the Mestiachala River.
